Stage Settings... problems?

Ok this is slightly weird, I just loaded the software to start playing around to see if it is what I want to go with and I am trying to imput staging and trussing. So I go (just like the help menu states) to Stage and click new, then go to stage and click stage settings... however there are no tabs to add objects or so forth. There is just the area to change the floors walls and backgrounds but I am not able to bring anything else in because the tabs are not there. Yet the tabs show up in the help menu so something is missing for me here. Should I uninstall and try again?

To add objects, click on the "build mode" button in the toolbar. You can add objects by clicking on the "add objects" button above the "Settings" tabs.
