SL512 EC Differences between 2000 and 2002

Hi there,
First of all, thanks in advance for any attention given to my question.

Here is the deal,
I will start to work in a club and they have a USB interface DMX SL512EC, but this one is the old one, (little USB white box).
I´m new to this hardware and software and I’ve found that there is tow versions of the DMX SL512EC one from the year 2000 and another one from 2002 I just want to know what is de differences between them and how can I know the year of the one that I have, if I find that my piece of hardware is from 2000 can I use the software from 2002? If so, can I even use the 2006 software version? what about the drivers? With one should I use? The ones from 2000? Or 2002?
Can I make firmware update to this thing? Or the ones that you have do not include this model?
