I/O triggering and MIDI

I am about to upgrade my old dmx system for my church, we would like to completely redesign the place. (it is an airport themed childrens church)
We would like to be able to have game show buzzers that trigger lighting events in sunlite, as well as a remote control to control lighting inside a puppet stage
I already have all the switches and remotes needed to pull this off,( the remotes give me a relay closure like a real switch) my problem is that i need more than 8 contact closures. Is there a way via midi or another program that i can have around 20 different closures? and what sunlite dmx controller would i need to do this?
